Product Description
FX French Wash is a unique acrylic based coating using modern technology to create a French Wash finish. This is achieved using a rag rolling technique, a cheesecloth or by brush in a criss-cross motion. This is a flat finish. For more durability we suggest finishing with a top coat of clear acrylic varnish, low sheen, satin or gloss. The product is ready to be tinted & used.
Surface Preparation
All surfaces must be thoroughly cleaned and free of all loose dirt, dust, grease, loose or flaking paint, and loose surface plaster. Efflorescence or mould on masonry or concrete surfaces must be treated. Flatten gloss surfaces by thoroughly sanding and wipe clean with a damp cloth, apply FX Sealer Undercoat as required. Follow with two coats of satin acrylic base paint, white or tinted. Apply FX French Wash when base paint is completely dry.
Application
Stir contents thoroughly before use with a broad flat stirrer using an upward action.
Brush/Roller: Use a 75mm or 100mm brush or a short or long nap roller, apply the first coat. Then using a rag rolling technique, cheesecloth, sea sponge or brush in a criss-cross motion to produce the desired effect. * Several coats can be applied to achieve different finishes. Always keep a wet edge and work in a random zig-zag motion from top to bottom.
For a traditional marble effect brush on two different colours in a random zig-zag pattern. Smear the two colours together using a cheesecloth. This is your marble base. Next dip a feather into a different colour and draw the tip diagonally along the surface to draw veins. Repeat feathering until satisfied. Simple uncomplicated feathering is best. We suggest you make samples using extra coats in order to view effects. To protect apply one coat of acrylic or oil based varnish.
FX Scumble may be added to the paint to slow down drying time for large areas and during hot or humid weather conditions.
